ya, you can take out brawling and steelfang, but then your adren gain is hampered during FGJ's downtime.

Is there no other decent knockdown skill that could take its place?

You wouldn't be able to use it that often. Exhaustion ftl.
Brawling headbutt is good because it's adrenaline based and spammable. There is no other knockdown like this, really.

Shock is unsuitable because of it's recharge and its exhaustion. Brawling Headbutt is spammable, but shock is not.

Besides if you went Shock you'd lose Enduring Harmony. For some that's no big deal, so if you really want the KD you could try [skill]Teinai's Wind[/skill]. Unfortunately it only works if they're attacking and has an 8sec recharge but could still be useful if you really want that KD.

The 'while attacking' requirement sucks really bad because you can't KD lock Monks. Also, you could take [[Whirlwind] (Prophecies duplicate) to give your KD's more flexibility, but it still wouldn't work all that well. Also, aftercast might be an issue.

Exactly, just trying to come up with something though since he seems to want the KD. If there is a hex spreading Necro in your group or someone using enfeebling blood you could use [skill]Iron Palm[/skill]. Twenty second recharge hurts though.

On a sword bar (or any other warrior bar, really), nothing is going to come close to the effectiveness of brawling headbutt. Honestly, I'd go with an interrupt instead.

IMO take [grasping earth] and forget about the KDs.
Baddies not kiting = good for your adrenaline too.

i use lions comfort instead of steelfang as it is good for adrenaline and provides a self heal under high pressure

I experimented with this sort of build back before PvE skills were introduced.
It worked... reasonably well. I used it for fun in the easier areas rather than in the harder areas, but on the other hand, there wasn't SY! to be fuelled back then. On the other hand, if you care to do so, you can toss in Conjure Lightning.
Alternatively, you may want to consider Whirlwind Attack if you're likely to be facing multiple opponents (under the right circumstances you can end up alternating Whirlwind Attack and Dragon, with scary results) or, as the previous poster suggested, Lion's Comfort. Or a combination of the various options presented.

I'm surprised that no one has suggested using either [[griffon's [email protected]] -or- [[leviathan's [email protected]]. Both skills deal damage, irregardless of KD or not, and KD is triggered by blocking. Many professions have blocking skills, and Monks can enchant allies to block via [[guardian] -or- [[aegis] just to name a couple. [[Brawling Headbutt] is definitely the best way to go, but at least [[Griffon's [email protected]] and [[Leviathan's [email protected]] are usable (and available in Proph/Fact) and punish perma-blocking Sins, Rangers, Warrs, and Monks. Not only that, but they are both linked to Strength, so adding them wouldn't alter your attribute spread at all...
My two cents, hope it helps.
*Strength attribute on both GS and LS set @ 13 for the usual 14 Sword, 13 Strength D-Slash/SY! attribute spread...

If your enemies are blocking you better not be hanging around trying to get a knockdown on them, your job is to get adrenaline and keep SY! up. 1 Knockdown is not worth your whole party suddenly taking 5-6x more damage because you wanted to make something fall over.
